Bits and Pieces 17th June 2010

Jon, the fill in Trumpeter in the show invited us to his home for the day. They live at Discovery Bay on Lantau Island.
This is the very fast boat we took for the 30 min trip over there. It was very choppy in the open water so we had to hold on but it was a great boat trip with beautiful views.

This is Discovery Bay. Its where alot of expats live. Its not like Hong Kong at all, it is very Westernised. Its a big, modern town with everything you need. No cars are allowed on the Island so everyone catches buses or uses a golf buggy to get around.

The pretty beach.

Firstly we visited a nice complex with a big playroom and swimming pool. We all jumped in for a swim.
Then later in the afternoon we had lunch. This is Jon, his wife Rose and baby Reece. Very nice people. They took us to their unit which is a typical tall unit block and it had stunning views of the water and hills. They are about to move back to UK after living in HK for seven years. Jon plays principal trumpet with the HK Philharmonic orchestra and he was the local asked to fill in when Dave, the original trumpeter fell ill.

Ben was able to find lots of new surfaces to try his vehicles on.

Last weekend, Kris (Dave's wife), Lisa and I had a girls night out. We couldnt leave till the boys got home from work so it was a late one but we had a good time. We found a quiet Aussie bar to sit and chat for a few hours.

Last weekend, I also got to go and see Chicago again. I used the hotel babysitting service so was free! I see everyone from the show everyday at the hotel so it was great being able to see the parts they play. They are all VERY clever and its a great show!
I am not being at all biased (ha ha) but Shane is absolutely amazing in the show! The band is on stage and the trumpet is basically the feature instrument. Shane has to stand up to do several solos throughout the show and at the end the audience gave him a huge cheer! He is a very clever boy!!
I went to a music shop and the prices were so good I couldnt resist buying an instrument. I bought Hailey a 1/10th size violin. She loves playing my big violin at home so she LOVES her new little violin. She is a very enthusiastic player and doing very well. She is learning some basic rhythms and the start of twinkle, twinkle. Lisa is giving her some tips.

After 4 weeks of being here, we have finally found our perfect eating place. Its called Lana Banana and its open aired and basic but serves really good Thai food. Its only a short walk away and we have been there twice this week already!!

Danny Davis visited us for a day this week. He lives in China now so he had a day off and its only a short flight so he decided to pop over. Its was great catching up and hearing all his news. This is Dan and Shane doing a bit of Kung Fu.

We bought Ben a super cute little Chinese suit. He doesnt like having photos taken so is not very happy in this one.
A funny photo of Ben. He always has a car in his hand even when he is asleep.
